Lane Bryant Ships Overseas, Overcharges on Exchange Rate

Lane Bryant ships overseas using FiftyOne to a number of countries. Unlike many retailers who use FiftyOne, there is an option to use promotional codes before checkout.

However, although it says on the website that "Foreign exchange rates are determined by FiftyOne and are based on interbank rates of exchange. These rates correspond with the average aggregate exchange rates that would otherwise be applied in an e-commerce transaction.", in a help chat with a Lane Bryant staff member on December 26, 2014, it was revealed that they do impose a surcharge through the exchange rate. "we acknowledge prices may vary by region due to additional service fees we incur for international orders."

When I checked on various items for sale, the average markup on the exchange rate was 20%.

This is before shipping, duties, and taxes.

If you want to avoid this surcharge on foreign residents, you can have your item shipped to a US address or forwarding service. However, Lane Bryant also has begun restricting their payment options, so you need a USD credit card with a billing address in the US. Look for a mail forwarder that has a "buy for me" option.
